In Sri Lanka’s undeclared war, the LTTE has lost 818 fighters (including 250 women) this year alone, says the pro-rebel website Tamilnet.
 
Since the death of Lt Sanker, the first LTTE cadre to be killed in military action on November 27, 1982, the Tamil rebel group has lost 18, 742 fighters, it adds. 
 
Every year, November 27 is observed by the LTTE as "Heroes Day" and the group’s  Supremo, Velupillai Prabhakaran, delivers a speech over radio and TV, giving an idea of his perspective on events in that year, and outlining his plans for the future.  
 
The 24-year-old war in the North and East of the island, is said have taken the lives of more than 65,000 civilians and combatants.
