I was with Nimmi, my wife at "In Orbit", a Shopping Mall at Mumbai's Goregaon, when I bumped into Jaya and Harvey.

“Hello, Mr Mohan Deep.”

“Hello…how is life? Hope things have worked out for you.” I asked them after introducing them to my wife.

“Feng Shui has changed our life.” Harvey appeared very content.

We sat over a cup of coffee at the Coffee Day and talked. Rather, Harvey talked. “Things started working soon after we implemented Feng Shui changes in our house. It all started with a casual encounter with one of the friends of Jaya. Her husband is based abroad but wanted to start business here. The same travel industry I worked for. My experience and contacts seemed just right for his plans. And now, I'm the top man in the organization as far as India is concerned. I am running the show. My take home today is twice what it used to be.”

Like Harvey, Jaya too talked excitedly.

“Mohanji, like you suggested, I started fashion designing and hope to do well.”
Jaya's lucky element is Earth and the Fire business of fashion designing is just right for her. She will certainly do well.

As we parted, I started telling my wife how this all happened.

I visited Harvey's house some six months ago. Harvey was in his early forties but looked older than his years. His shoulders were stooped as if tired of carrying the burden of life. I remember what he said at that time.

“Sir, I am stagnating in my career. I did well for the first 15 years and got two promotions. I thought I had settled down in my life and hoped that I would get regular promotions and reach the senior management level. Nothing like that happened. God knows what the problem is! They have got younger people to lord over us. It is so humiliating! Imagine standing in front of a newly appointed man half your age, explaining what you did or didn't like some junior clerk. This boy doesn't even have the courtesy to ask me to sit. This, after all I have done for the business. Over the years, the business has grown manifolds but I was there when this was a small office. I worked long hours, neglecting my family and even my health. I was appreciated at that time but as the business grew, corporate culture came and I found myself alienated. I have approached other companies but somehow nothing has worked out.” He said.

He gave several instances of harassment as well as betrayal by colleagues he once considered friends.

When he told me the name of his company I was taken aback. Five years ago, his boss had consulted me for the growth of his business and he remains a friend till this day.

Showing him his boss' mobile number in my cell's contacts I suggested that I could talk to him. But Harvey had ego problem about that. “I will feel degraded. I want things happening because I deserve it and not as a favor or gratitude.”
Few more questions revealed that after getting his second promotion, he had moved into this house. He had got loan for residential premises from a housing finance institution and also from his own office.

“And your career has stagnated after you moved in this house?” I observed. He nodded eagerly and said, “This is why I think there is some problem in this house.”

So far, we had focused on his career but now, Jaya, his wife joined the conversation. Jaya had looked after herself well. Though in her late thirties, she looked much younger. But she also had her share of complaints. She said, “Life has changed for me too. I used to give tuitions in the earlier house but not in the new house. I tried but it didn't work out. I do not know what to do with my time. He is always busy in his office and has no time for us. My son is in school. I get bored.

I want to do something meaningful. I am a very creative person. I want some outlet and if that brings some additional income it will be more than welcome.”
It later turned out that Jaya had egged Harvey to consult me.

She was to tell me later that, “Harvey is a loser. He had accepted defeat till you gave him hope.”

The first thing I noticed about their house was several problems in the Career corner.

It was incomplete. There was a desk and computer. The computer was covered with a red cloth. And a beautiful bonsai plant was placed on the desk. Worse, the monitor was placed in such a way that one would sit facing north. North was the total loss direction for both, Harvey (born in 1962) and Jaya (born in 1969).

I told them, “This sector is ruled by Water and a piece of red cloth represents fire. Both the element, the Fire and the Water, clash and this causes problems. The computer…”

Harvey and Jaya implemented all the Feng Shui changes and enhancements I suggested.
